Kevin Grady's combines use up the discarded wood and irons of a wasteful nation to exalt the unmoving, unfeeling figures set within. In mute attention, his works present the facade of youth surrounded and enclosed by a future they may face. Here's what Grady says: "In my line of work I am often in homes which are in "trust" - the owner has died and the house is being sold by the heirs. So basically the heirs come in and take what they want, but before the haulers come in and trash what is left of someone's life I am able to take what no one else thought was worth anything; old wooden boxes, dolls, rusty yard tools, rotting books.... and I use them in my art. I try to use the remains so they are recycled instead of discarded. Almost everything I use comes from an estate salvage, is a found object, or is something that I have made myself to incorporate into a piece."
