Shaffer's artwork attaches itself to surfaces he finds...toe tags, old postcards, crumpled ledger sheets and paper ripped from long dead spirals...not so much by some aesthetic but by necessity. He has no other plane. His art layers color over inscribed marks, paper stuck to paper and images struggling to be seen and heard. The future looks bright for this young and speeding master. |

Shaffer pulls from underneath all the stitch and staple that holds the face together, holds the person together behind. His old wall-color portraits smear across the landscape of gentle portraiture the odd feeling and look of age too early. At times, we all look like this to someone. |
